ITALIAN BRIG, 1854
Status: Casualty

`A Polacca brig, which became a total wreck on the Holme Sand in wind conditions NNW force 7, thick and cloudy. She struck at 7pm according to the Coastguard return, her crew being saved, as was the pilot on board, who was not licensed. Estimated loss on the vessel was 1500 pounds [sterling], for which she was insured, loss on the cargo 150, which was uninsured.' (1)

`Lowestoffe, 7th December - The CARMELO, Antonich, of and for Trieste, from Hull with coals, grounded on the Holm Sand this morning and has become a total wreck; crew saved.' (2)
