Full Description

1784 wreck of English cargo vessel which foundered in the Stanford Channel en route to St. David's with coal; a wooden sailing vessel.
Status: Casualty

`Newcastle, Nov. 27, 1784...On the 29th ult. the ELIZABETH, of this port, Capt. Anderson, laden with coals for St. David's, was lost at the Stamford, near Lowestoffe, the crew are saved.' (1)

NB: "St. David's" remains unidentified, possibly referring to St. David's in Pembrokeshire, but as Wales was also a coal-producing area this may not be correct.
