Full Description
1794 wreck of English cargo vessel which stranded on a shoal in the Stanford Channel, while on her passage with coal; a wooden sailing vessel.
Status: Casualty
`Newcastle, Jan. 3, 1795...The HOPE, Capt. Todd, of London, with coals, struck on a shoal near the Stamford [sic], on the 23d ult. The crew, 11 in number, took to their boat, and were all lost, except the mate, in attempting to get on shore. The loss of Captain Todd will be long regretted by a numerous circle of friends.' (1)
`North Shields, March 5th, 1795. To be sold by auction, on Monday the 9th instant, on Mr Fairles's Ballast Quay, South Shields: All the materials saved from the late ship HOPE of London, consisting of anchors, cables, sails, masts yards, standing and running rigging, two boats, etc. The sale to begin at 10 o'clock in the forenoon.'
