Full Description
1771 wreck of English brig which foundered at anchor off Lowestoft after a collision, while en route from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to London. Constructed of wood, she was a sailing vessel.

'The MARY & JAMES, Gallille, from London to Newcastle, and the PITT, -, from Newcastle to London, are both lost.' (1)(2)
'London, October 29...By a letter from Capt. Thomas Anderson, of the BENJAMIN, belonging to Newcastle, we are informed, that on his passage from thence to London he met with the most violent storms of wind he ever knew in his time. That on Sunday the 13th inst. he saw a vessel lost...near Lowestoffe...That on the 17th they had a hard gale of wind from the NE when a vessel near the same place drove from her anchors, run on board a brig, lying near his ship, and sunk her. She was called the PITT, of 16 keel burthen, and belonged to London. The crew were all saved by Capt. Anderson.' (3)
