Full Description

2019: A programme of geoarchaeological field investigations and deposit modelling was undertaken at Tayfen Road in order to (1) clarify the nature of the sub-surface stratigraphy; (2) clarify the nature, depth, extent and possible date of any alluvium and organic/peat deposits; and (3) make recommendations for any further geoarchaeological or palaeoenvironmental investigations at the site.
The results of the geoarchaeological field investigations, including a total of five new geoarchaeological boreholes and a programme of deposit modelling integrating the results of previous geotechnical investigations, have revealed a sequence of Late Devensian gravel, overlain by Holocene alluvial sediments including peat, and modern Made Ground.
