Full Description

The evaluation trenches identified three features, a pit, a large pit or hollow, and a post-medieval or modern gully. The pit contained one small sherd of pottery, which was not closely dateable. The hollow contained an assemblage of ironworking slag and pottery of Iron Age character. The quantity of pottery and slag from the feature suggests that unenclosed Iron Age occupation (and industry) was occurring closer to the site than suggested by the geophysical survey, and possibly within the site (S1).
