Full Description

The three excavated areas mainly revealed deposits of 2nd-3rd century Roman date representing a modest area of Roman occupation, which may have continued beyond the site boundary to the south. The Roman road appeared to have been used as a base line for a series of paddocks or fields. The site appears to be a fairly low-status rural settlement farming a typical range of cattle, sheep and pig but curiously, no evidence for arable production was recovered. A few prehistoric struck flints were also recovered along with two Early Iron Age pits and features of Medieval and Post-medieval date (S1).
