Full Description

The building presents a C15th - MC16th long walled jettied timber frame with exposed studwork on the upper register and external straight bracing. The steelyard and frame is a freestanding structure that is bolted through the top-plate of the end wall and secured with a clamp (long baulk of timber) and wrought iron bolts seen inside. The rear (south elevation) of the original frame is now hidden by outshots and extensions. There are two chimneys, The central one is for the massive firestack seen in the ground floor and has fireplaces on the ground and first floor. The roof is a near complete crown post roof with collar purlins and ribbed octagonal crown posts. The tapered rafters are laid on the flat and each pair connected with flat collars pegged with lap joints. The tie-beams have pronounced upward cambers in Tudor style and would perhaps indicate a C15th date (S1).
