Full Description
1983: A watching brief visit was carried out on the construction of a new bungalow behind Beech Cottage. The foundation trenches were 67% done with natural chalk visible at c 50cm below the surface with pockets of yellow sand. Mid brown silty loam above with 25cms of darker topsoil. Some Post medieval disturbance as noticed, with the area said to have been used in the First World War, including chalky surface area. Four small sherds of Romano British pottery was recovered in south west of foundation trenches. Probable ditches visible in section but soil very unstable and prone to collapse (S1).
