Monument record PSG 070 - Partially levelled linear earthworks of uncertain but possible medieval to post medieval date

Please read our .

Summary

Linear ditches visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs are of unknown date and origin but could represent boundaries of medieval to post medieval date. More recent sources suggest that they have mostly been levelled, although some remnants perhaps remain visible on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2022.

Full Description

October 2026. South-West Suffolk Claylands Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
Linear ditches visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs (S1-S2) are of unknown date and origin but could represent boundaries of medieval to post medieval date. Alternatively, they could be of recent origin, and some elements may relate to (possibly natural?) drainage. More recent sources suggest that the earthworks have mostly been levelled; remnants perhaps remain visible on visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2022 (S3), although these too may relate to natural drainage features.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council Environment Team), 13th October 2026.
