Monument record BAA 003 - Moat House, Badwell Green.

Moat. Very wide. One side and fragments of two sides. Occupied. Beside hamlet of Badwell Green (S1).
Probably much larger originally, perhaps L shaped. Area mapped by HBSMR reduced to match OS 1880s and 1900s mapping and to include range of farm buildings (none are actually Listed but probably require examination) though original extent largely estimated (CP, 2 Nov 2012).
Earlier maps and documentation need checking.

A fragment of a very broad moat at Green Farm. (Green Farm identifiedon OS 6" 1884, named 'Moat House' on OS 6" 1960). (S2)

Moat House (name confirmed); said to be 16th century according to the owner, has been extensively modernised and is not outstanding.

The wide stubby 'U' shaped pond to the south of the house is probablyornamental, and no tracees to complete a moated enclosure could be seen to the north of the house. The other ponds in the garden were probably dug as clay pits. Published 25" survey correct. (S3)
