[ TL 9486 3494 ] In Grange Wood, Wissington, on the S. crest of a broad flat-topped ridge running E-W, there is a large well-preserved earthwork at a height of 200 ft. O.D. The approaches to the N. and W. are across level ground; to the S. and E. the ground falls away gently into a valley and re-entrant respectively. The earthwork is sub-rectangular on plan, measuring internally 94.0 m. N-S by 80.0 m. E-W, and consists of a rampart and outer ditch (see sections). The ditch has been destroyed on the S. side leaving the rampart only. A woodland boundary bank and ditch run parallel to and contiguous with the W. side, whilst another has slightly mutilated the outer scarp of the N. ditch. The enclosed area is featureless. There are two entrances, one in the E. side and another in the W. A further gap in the S. side is probably modern. Extending for 50.0 m. in a NE. direction from the NE. corner to the edge of the wood, there is a bank and ditch. It is of similar proportions to the earthwork and clearly contemporary. AM Survey carried out. (S3)
