Full Description
Finds from gravel pit at Brundon, including cremated bone in glass bottle, iron lamp slipper, pots, including `Belgic' (?) type. Cordoned urn found in 1947. ? Mainly AD C1, some pre- Conquest. Found between 1936-1948. Site of Rom cemetery found in 1948 sited by finder, (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). He recalls `at a depth of about 0.8m, whilst removing topsoil prior to gravel extraction, "several urns" were found, including the "large grey cordoned jar". Though all but the latter were broken, each appeared to have contained cremated remains. According to Coles, pottery, including what appears to be Samian, ... have been found in the gravel pit since work commenced around 1918, but all are dispersed and cannot be located'. `The gravel pit has been disused since 1949 (S1)(R1)(R2).
Separate account by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), together with drawing of small globular cordoned pot, states this was one of two, which was found under a larger one with cremated bone, circa 3ft diameter in `(see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)' (S3).
