Full Description
Moat. Dry, unoccupied, isolated (R1).
Moore Hall - 1609 Edward Copley owns, nothing more known. (S1)
Taken from NRHE record:
A square moat, now drained, lies south-east of Houghton Grove, north-east of Clare.
A square homestead moat lying on a gentle North-East slope, originally filled by surface drainage. The arms average 50.0m long by 10.0m wide and 2.0m deep with the central island raised slightly above the surrounding area. The original entrance causeway crosses the South-East arm and probable 16th century walling is visible at TL 8008 5035. A fishpond, now dry, extends from the North-East angle for some 48.0m and further ground disturbance to the East possible indicates the site of another pond which has since been filled.
