Full Description

Chapel of St Mary Magdalene, built circa 1190. 12d granted to lepers of 'Wanteford' in mid C12 by Alexander de Kesunere (S2). Note: leper houses were frequently dedicated to St Mary Magdalene. Converted to domestic building shortly after dissolution in 1550.
C12 doorway and C13 pointed arch on N side. Remains of windows, blocked, as attics.
1550 Edward VI gave dissolved Chapel of St Mary Magdalene in Chilton to Thomas Marsh. Chapel in existence 1403; called Wentford Chapel in 1443; 1471 called chapel of 'beate marie magdalene de Wanteford' (S1).

Chapel Cottage was formerly the Chapel of St Mary Magdalene
built circa 1190 which was turned into a house shortly after it
was dissolved in 1550. This flint rubble building is
one-storeyed with attics which are remains of original windows, now
blocked. On the north side there is a 12th century semi-circular
arched doorway and 13th century pointed arch. Grade 2*. (S6)

This has been identified with the leper hospital of St Mary Magdalene documented in mid 12th century charter of Stoke by Clare Priory. Description of the chapel. (S8)
