Full Description
Moat. Small, square, unoccupied, isolated. On parish boundary. Owner reports that during c.1980 de-silting split half logs were found, probably from a revetment. These were carbon dated at Cambridge to c.C8 AD. They were described as c.2ft diameter. No indication of whether date is corrected or relates to felling or planting.
Possibly within holding of Finches (Farm, now Bevan's Farm) to S in early C19th.

To the east of Brockley (TL 8265 5553) is a small square moat. (2)
A square waterfilled homestead moat situated on level ground and filled by land drainage, with an outlet from the SW angle. The arms measure 62.0m long by 14.0m wide with the central island standing 1.6m above the surrounding ground level. No trace of a building was found within the work which has a precise, possible ornamental, appearance.
