Full Description
Kiln site.
Noticed in a drainage channel (now gone) - brick and tile fragments with large clay pit to the E. Trial trench by C Paine in this pit produced C3-C4 pottery, 'clearly wasters', similar to Nene Valley products. Scatter with numerous box tiles and samian F 18/31 seen to E of field (SAU 1976). Scatter circa 20m across at (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) of brick and tile, mixed with modern material (OS 1976).
Presumably some as 'Roman Tiles & Sherds (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)' marked on BSEMH map by Edwardson & cited with cross in field to W at (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) (S1).
March 1993: 6 Rom bronze coins, found by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), of C1, C2 and C3 date. Small bronze strap-end buckle found 75m to NW of area at (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) (S2).
November 1998: Spread of 'greyware' wasters and box tile, found some years earlier, though very little in way of metalwork (metal) detected, defined on map as extending from clay pit across the road to SNN 005 (S3). HER map revised.
