Full Description

Two post mills. One, a large post mill with two storey roundhouse with four patent sails and a fantail, (not shown on Hodskinson's map of Suffolk 1783), was shown on the 1819 parish enclosure map and in 1823 was described as `new-erected', when owned by Thomas Baker, a Stanton farmer. In 1818 a mill (S3) was `removed whole' from Stanton - possibly the same one. Stood until 1917.
The second mill came from Wortham after 1881, when it is shown Wortham by OS, but by 1883, when Walsham Mill is described as `wind a steam' in a trades directory. The mill body only was moved and set up on the ground as a steam mill. It never worked as a windmill at Walsham (S2)(S3). Roundhouse still in use as office (S3). Details in (S1) confused according to (S3).
