Full Description
Coin hoard circa 90 gold Iceni staters, in a handmade shouldered pot with scored/scratched exterior, pot lost (S5, illustrated). Two 'early' type staters, rest 'Freckenham' series, dated approximately AD 0-25 (S7).
Found at Freckenham in 1885 "by a labourer working in his own garden, who in digging came across a small urn of imperfectly burnt clay in which there appear to have been about 90 coins of somewhat base gold" (S1,R3,R6). `The finding of this hoard was kept secret, the collection became distributed and the coins disposed of... some secured by the British Museum, the rest found their way into two or three well-known collections' (S3).
