Full Description
Swale's Tumulus.
1935: Bowl barrow, tree covered and overspread. Burrowed. No visible ditch (S2).
1954: Excavated (due to partial destruction by bulldozer), revealed small primary mound (see Neo) with food vessel with cremation inserted in the side. Larger mound raised over small one, with chalk revetment, derived from well marked ditch, built round the base. Another cremation, covered with thin planks, came from outside the revetment (S1)(R1)(R2).
Beaker pottery also listed by Clarke (S4).
1976: "Now much ploughed down, visible as a slight rise of circa 0.2m with diameter circa 28m. Outer ditch visible on APs OS 74/095 128-9" (S1).1976: No trace, ploughed out (S3).
