Full Description
St George's church, Sancroft, otherwise South Elmham St Cross. Rectory. Structure : Chancel, nave, W tower, S porch, Norman S and N doorways. St Edmundsbury and Ipswich diocese, Suffolk Archdeaconry. Beccles and S Elmham deanery. Name : Suthelmeham 1252. Decorated tower, chancel and porch, rest Perpendicular. Position is in NW of the parish (S2).
Name : Sandcroft (Sancroft) in Taxatio Ecclesiastica, circa 1291. Sandcroft or St George in Valor Ecclesiasticus, Henry VIII (S1).
It is thought to be included in the Domesday Survey as one of the two churches recorded for (what is now) the parish of South Elmham St Mary (S3).
