Full Description
Ring ditch, circa 25m diameter (S1). (Originally recorded at NGR TM 23853642.)
A possible Bronze Age round barrow is visible as the cropmark of a ring ditch and possible mound on aerial photographs, centred on TM 23833645 to the south of Hill House in Shotley parish. The ring ditch encloses an area approximately 28m in diameter and its size suggests that it may represent the remains of a Bronze Age burial mound. It is not clear whether the paler area of crop within the ring ditch represents the remains of the mound itself or is just a result of the underlying geology. See SLY 109 and SLY 110 for the other possible barrows in this field. (S1) (S2) (S3)
