Full Description
Haft flanged axe decorated with hanging swag. Stress (?) cracks near butt. Moulding seams on flange sides. Heavily hammered. Dark brown. Length 17.1 cms (S1), weight 532 grms (S1)(S2), 539.7 cg (S3). "Found near Mildenhall", "Mildenhall (Undley Common)", purchased 1900 (S3). Class I, group I flanged axe of EMBA, listed as both flanged axe and palstave by Rowlands (S4). Formerly recorded as Mildenhall Misc 14.
