Full Description
Dense scatter of Neo & BA worked flint, pottery, animal bone, burnt flint, and stone, found fieldwalking between 1965-1986 by C Pendleton on slight sandy ridge in plough soil, mainly on OS field 0065 but extending into 0053. Finds include pottery, mainly collared urn type, but also a few beaker sherds, 8 barbed and tanged arrowheads, 5 triangular arrowheads, 1 hollow based arrowhead, 6 plano-convex knives and various other knives, flint and stone hammer stones, hammer/anvil stone, two bone ? awls, one broken worked antler ?decorated/marked with a square & dots - possibly a small ? cheek piece, various worked flint, fire cracked flint, split animal bone (S1). Other finds made in same period by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), recorded by C Pendleton.
1977: Excavation of part of site by E A Martin for SAU demonstrated extensive damage to archaeological deposits on sand ridges, however, features, occupation horizon and mixed peat and marl horizons survived on the edges of the ridges and the adjoining hollows. Details of environmental analysis, radio-carbon dates (HAR 2510, 2516, 2517)[calibrated to between 2190-1615 BC], finds and excavation report in excavation archive (S2).
