Full Description

Item in Fenton Collection (in 1911) from Mildenhall (area): `square-headed brooch (fig 13).... with debased animal ornament and a stout disc attached to the bow' (S1). Now IPSMG ? `A leaden weight (fig 12) of 3810 grains (247.4 grammes) .... was found at Mildenhall, and is surmounted by a bronze-gilt disc engraved with a rosette, the spaces between the points being filled with looped triangles and (apparently) birds wings. It probably dates from the 8th or 9th century' (S1)(S2). Weight now in Streeter Collection, Yale University (S3).
