Full Description
1987: Following discovery of a human skeleton during construction work, small scale excavation carried out by J Plouviez for SAU. `A few days excavating' revealed `a series of small Rom ditches, probably field boundaries. A second human burial was found, near to the first; both had been buried in the top of one of the ditches'. No grave goods but `Rom pottery fragments and an iron pruning hook in the ditches suggest a date in the C1 or C2 AD for their use and also for the insertion of the burials' (S1). (S2)
Within larger Rom site, LKH 030.
For further inhumations in locality, see LKH 030, ERL 023 and ERL 024. Also IA.
Radiocarbon date of human femur SUERC-34269 (GU-23940): 240-400CalAD (95.4% probability).(S3).
