Full Description
March 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The former earthworks of an embanked circular platform of either Post medieval or World War Two date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The earthworks could feasibly relate to a post medieval/early modern industrial site, associated with the wharf, however it must be noted that this section of the waterfront appears to postdate the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map (S3). Early wartime photography from the Second World War (S2) may indicate a defensive structure at this location, although the images are not clear enough for an interpretation to be made. No trace of a structure is visible in 1945 (S1).
