April 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
Structures visible in the playground of Carlton Colville Primary School on aerial photographs taken in the 1940s (S1)-(S2) may be World War Two surface air raid shelters provided for the pupils and staff. They were still in place, however, in the 1950s (see aerial photographs S3 for example) and perhaps later, so alternative functions, as toilet blocks, temporary classrooms or pavilions, for example, are also plausible. Later aerial photographs indicate that they have since been removed.
