Full Description

A length of scaffolding can be seen as a structure on aerial photographs of 1944 (S1) &1945 (S2, S3, S4). This feature would have functioned as a tank trap. It begins on the beach at Gunton Denes, and then runs inland approx 400m west, before turning and running approx 750m south, finishing with a 250m stretch to the west. The scaffolding appears to occasionally have areas of associated minefield, while there are also small gaps at some points. Where the scaffolding crosses the Yarmouth Road, at TM 5432 9498, a number of spots can be seen on the road surfaces. These represent covers over sockets, which would have had girders slotted into them to create a tank trap on the road. This section of scaffolding would appear to be a late World War II feature, as it does not appear on pre-1944 photographs.
