Monument record LWT 122 - World War II heavy anti-aircraft battery (site of)

A heavy anti-aircraft battery can be seen on aerial photographs of 1944 (S1) and 1945 (S2), on the golf course (now built over), which lay adjacent to Pakefield Park. The battery consisted of a number of Nissen huts, other assocaited military buildings, 4 large gun emplacemts, smaller associated gun emplacements and some small slit trenches. Also visible on the 1944 photographs is a length of cable duct, linking 2 structures. The battery appears to have been constructed between 1942 & 1943, as it appears that the site is under construction on aerial photographs from early 1943 (S3)
Site of a Second World War heavy anti aircraft battery at the former Golf Course, Kirkley. It was armed with three 3-inch guns (but 1945 AP (suffolk 88%) shows 4 gun emplacements) with GL Mark IA radar in 1942, when it was manned by 327 Battery of the 106th Royal Artillery Regiment, and was retained as an Off-Site Nucleus Force Battery in 1946 (S4)
