Full Description

A trench, sub semi-circular in form, measuring c 50m long, can be seen on the clifftop north of Southend Warren on aerial photographs from 1941 (S1). It appears to have flat 'platform' areas at either end. The trench would have been a component of the World War II coastal defences in this area, although it is possible that it was only used for practice. It can still be seen on photographs from 1943 (S2)
