Full Description
A length of anti-tank cubes stretches along the coast for almost 1km by Southwold, and to the north of it. They are visible on aerial photographs from 1941 (S1) and 1943 (S2). The cubes on the whole run along the beach, but there is a spur which runs along the northern edge of Buss Creek for a short distance. These tank obstacles would have played a part in the wider coastal defence systems in this area, aimed at preventing an invading force landing from the sea.
Just N of boating lake, Reydon, N of Southwold Anti-tank cubes. One of two long lines of anti-tank cubes forming an L-shape. This line represents the N-S branch of the L. The texture of the blocks suggests that shingle from the local beach was used in their construction (S3).
Just N of boating lake, Reydon, N of Southwold Anti-tank cubes. One of two long lines of anti-tank cubes forming an L-shape. This line represents the W-E branch of the L. The texture of the blocks suggests that shingle from the local beach was used in their construction (S4).
Easton Marshes, near seawall and parallel with it, Reydon Anti-tank cubes. They lie edge to edge and all have now sunk into the soft sandy ground. In some cases only part of the tops of the cubes are visible (S5).
