Full Description

A sea bank, c 850m long, is visible as an earthwork between Reedland and Corporation Marshes in Dunwich parish, on 1945 aerial pfotographs (S1). The bank (running from TM48667357 to TM48807281) would have been part of the flood defences in this area, and may date to the post medieval period. This date is further backed up by the fact that the bank is depicted as an earthwork on the OS 1st Ed County Series 25" map of c1884, suggesting that it was an established feature by this date. The earthwork is slightly fragmented at its southerly end. It is attached to another bank at its northerly end (WLB 054), and appears to have been a component of a wider flood defence system.
