Full Description

An irregular U-shaped length of barbed wire obstruction, c 360m in total, can be seen as a structure on Dunwich Heath between TM47156799 & TM47326795, on 1941 aerial photographs (S1). The exact purpose of this feature is unclear, but it is most likely to have been a component of the World War II date defences in this area. The feature is only partially visible on later aerial photographs, from 1945(S2), as ephemeral structures, such as barbed wire obstructions, were often dismantled towards the end of the war.
