Full Description
A Post Medieval sea bank is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs from 1945, on the southern side of the River Deben in Sutton parish. The bank is approximately 1.21 km in length and runs from TM 28324963 to TM 29145012. (S1) The 1st and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey 25" maps of circa 1884 and 1904 both depict a sea bank in this position suggesting that the flood defence is of Post Medieval or earlier date. (S2) (S3)
