Full Description
The remains of a probable Post Medieval sea bank are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1945, on the eastern side of the Deben in Sutton parish. There are three stretches of bank, centred on TM 27634854, TM27534847 and TM27514834, measuring 86m, 55m and 87m respectively. (S1) The most northern of the three stretch of bank is depicted on the 1st and 2nd Ordnance Survey 25" maps of circa 1884 and 1904. It is likely therefore that the flood defence was constructed in the Post Medieval period sometime before 1884. (S2) (S3)
