Monument record FEX 167 - Probable World War II military site.

A World War II military site of unknown function is visible as a number of structures and earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1944, to the west of the house formerly known as Orwell House and Cloncurry, Felixstowe (TM 28643413). In April 1944 a number of features are visible on the site, including four irregular hexagonal buildings which are 12m across at their widest point and appear to have blast walls. These structures are located in the hedge line, at TM 28613409, TM 28633409, TM28623414 and TM 28573413 and are therefore partially concealed. Their function is unclear. Two earthwork features are visible to the east of these buildings, a circular hollow at TM 28643416, which may not be related to the military activity, and a zigzag trench in the garden of the house at TM 28683415, which is possibly an air raid shelter or a practice trench. (S1) (S2) By May 1944 some sort of ground disturbance is visible in the centre of the site and two pairs of small adjacent earthwork mounds may be visible. The function of these features is unclear. By 1946 no features remain visible on the site. (S3)
