Full Description
A number of World War II military structures are visible surrounding Martello Tower 'Q' in Felixtowe (TM 29923426) on aerial photographs taken from 1941 onwards. In 1941 the tower is enclosed on its northern side by a v-shaped arrangement of barbed wire obstruction, whilst a short stretch of scaffolding is visible to the east. A half-opened, half-roofed Type 23 pillbox is visible to the south of the Martello Tower at TM 29923424. A group of military buildings or huts are visible outside the barbed wire enclosure to the north-east of the Martello Tower, centred on TM 29963431. (S1) By April 1944 the barbed wire and scaffolding has been removed and more buildings have been added to the group of buildings in the north-east corner of the site. A number of slit trenches such as the one at TM 29953433 have been constructed. The structures were removed sometime before 1963. (S2) (S3)
