Full Description
The remains of a Post Medieval boat hard and possible warehouse at Slaughden are visible as structures on aerial photographs, centred on circa TM46295521. A structure and boat hard in this location can be seen on both the first and second edition Ordnance Survey maps of 1884 and 1904 (S1, S2). The warehouse structure is first visible on aerial photographs of 1940 and both boat hard and building can be seen on 1941 prints (S3, S4). A Post Medieval date for their construction is likely. From the Post Medieval period up to the early 20th century Slaughden docks housed a busy inn, warehouses and boat building yard, but coastal erosion has destroyed many of these structures. Fragments of these structures can be seen on aerial photographs up to 1952 (S5). The remains of another Slaughden structure can be seen circa 175m to the north east (see ADB 149).
