Monument record SLY 146 - Remnants of a possible field system and trackways of unknown date visible as cropmarks in Shotley parish

Remnants of a possible field system and trackways of unknown date are visible as cropmarks of ditches on aerial photographs, centred on TM 22213645 in Shotley parish. One part of the field system, centred on TM 22203635, consists of three field boundaries which intersect at right-angles to form the possible corners of four rectilinear fields. To the north-east of these boundaries another boundary, 185m in length, is visible on the same alignment, centred on TM 22283661. This is likely to be part of the same field system. To the south of these features, short sections of possible trackway are visible centred on TM 22203643 and TM 22293639. These double-ditched features are also on the same alignment as the possible field system. The field system and trackways are orientated on a different alignment to the probable Later Prehistoric or Roman field system located in these fields (SLY 006), suggesting that they originated at a different time.
