Full Description
The concrete bases of RADAR transmitter masts are visible as structures on aerial photographs from 1941 onwards, centred on circa TM43404870 and circa TM43374866 near the south-eastern tip of Orfordness, Orford parish (S1). The masts were part of Sir Robert Watson-Watts early development work in Radio Direction Finding, later to be known as RADAR, and were direct precursors of the Chain Home (C.H.) system (see ORF 021). The tethering points for the mast's cables can be seen radiating out in a cross pattern from the base of the masts. (S2-5)
