Full Description

A number of possible oyster beds of probable post-medieval or modern date are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of Gedgrave parish, centred on circa TM42214843. The pits are between 4 x 5m and 9 x 7m in size and are located on the saltmarsh above the mean high water mark within a 'V' shaped recess in the sea banks of the River Ore (see GED 039). As the 'V' shaped section of the sea wall can be dated with some confidence to the post-medieval period it is likely that the pits date to the post-medieval or modern period. (S1, S2)
