Full Description

A Post Medieval sea bank is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken from 1944 onwards, running along the western bank of the River Orwell from TM 16974103 to TM 16334188 in Wherstead parish. Another stretch of sea bank is visible to the west of Bourne Bridge at TM 16094196. (S1) (S2) A sea bank is depicted in the same position on the 1st and 2nd edition Ordnance Survey 25" maps of circa 1884 and 1904, suggesting that the sea bank is at least Post Medieval in origin.
