Full Description

A ring ditch and rectilinear ditched enclosure of possible later prehistoric date can be seen on aerial photographs about 100 metres to the north of Brightwell Hall, Brightwell parish, at circa TM251435 and TM251436. The ring ditch is on average less than 1 metre wide, enclosing an area circa 15 metres in diameter. The narrow ditch would support an interpretation of the site as the remains of an Iron Age roundhouse, the ditch formed as a drip gulley, although narrow ditches do enclose round barrows of an earlier date. The rectilinear ditched enclosure is only partly visible as a cropmark, the north-eastern corner possibly remaining unfinished. (S1-S3)
