Description

Monitoring of pope laying operations between a point just south of Waldringfield Chruch and the Bucklesham pumping station recovered little archaeological material as the shallow soil strip did not expose many features. Five sites were made to examine the soil strip area along the length of the new water main between a point south of Church Farm and the Bucklesham pumping station. This work was funded by Anglian Water and carried out in March and April 1999. Over most of the monitored length the topsoil strip, which was 200/250mm deep, was too shallow to expose the subsoil or natural sand/gravel surface fully (S1).
