Description
Monitoring of the groundworks revealed no archaeological features or finds. A visit was made once all the footings had been dug. The footings extended beyond the existing footprint of the building and measured 5.5x0.75m. They were excavated to a depth of 0.8m through sandy loam topsoil, 400mm deep with inclusions of modern brick fragments and coal ash. Below this was 0.46m of subsoil comprising red/brown silty sand with regular small pebbles. Natural orange/yellow sand was seen at 0.86m. A small modern pit was noted (S1).
