Description
A series of site visits were made during the redevelopment of the Respite Care Home to monitor the groundworks associated with the demolition of the former building and the construction of its replacement. Monitoring included the excavation of pre-construction engineering test holes, the grubbing out of the footing of the demolished former building and the excavation of the footing trenches of the new build. The test holes showed that the natural geology rose close to the current surface on the east side of the site but a buried dark soil was observed below the topsoil suggesting that archaeological deposits migh exist on part of the site. The complete development area had been terraced into the side of the slope (S1).
