Description
Monitoring of a cable trench revealed a section through ringditch IPS 024, but no other archaeological features. An archaeological monitoring was carried out on land in the Nacton Park/ Ravenswood area, along part of the line of an overhead cable replacement route from Ipswich Cliff Quay to Nacton. Part of the monitoring has already been reported upon (SCCAS report 2008/280). This report covers the more detailed monitoring of the area of the old Ipswich Airport to the east of the A1189 where previous archaeological works had identified a likely ring ditch enclosure (IPS 024) and observation towards the Nacton end of the pipeline. The fieldwork was carried out across several days in September 2008 and February 2009, during which no archaeological deposits were observed. Later works along the route did reveal the ring ditch, although it was not possible to record other than photographically.
