Description

A programme of archaeological work, using open area excavation, test pitting and trenching, was undertaken on the site of the former Grampian Food Factory along Cotton Lane. This followed on from an earlier evaluation which highlighted the need to further investigate features. Three test pits 2mx2m were dug by hand, the soil was 100% sieved. The excavation area measured approx 12mb13m approc 0.5% of the site. Two trenches were excavated to the east of the site. The excavation area was heavily disturbed by a modern pipe runnin north-east to south-west and a Victorian culvert running north-west to south0east. Adverse weather and ground conditions also affeced the archeological work (S1).
