Description
Excavation was carried out in advance of construction of a new dwelling at the former site of Brewer's Garage. Before archaeological work began, the site was cleared of above-ground structures and reduced to pavement height, this was followed by evaluation trenches. The following excavation area was 230sqm and stripped by a ditching bucket. To the north, where the site fronted onto the road junction, the site strip was limited by the heavy disturbance caused by former garage fuel tanks, a 19th century wall and other modern disturbance, leaving an arbitary site edge (S1).
